New Year! New Year!
The ancient Chinese art of Feng Shui concerns how the environments in which we live and work can affect us, and how, by by improving our environment, we can improve the quality of our life, One of the goals of Feng Shui is to arrange
space so that Ch'i (or energy) can flow freely and harmoniously. It is about adjusting the amount of light available, about creating vibrant areas and restful areas - using colour.
Today many of us are rushing around with lives, homes, workplaces that are disconnected from the natural world. Yet, more and more of us are looking to our homes as our own personal places of calm and safety away from the "rat-race".
Devotees of Feng Shui see a colour link between our energy and the energy created by colour in our environment.
What's your favourite colour? You know what you like but do you also know that your choice can say a lot about your personality, your likes and dislikes - even your health? Whether it's the clothes you wear, the shade of paint you
choose to decorate your house with, even the way we explain our emotions - colour plays a huge part in our lives.
USE:-
- Green
- Adaptable and balancing - for areas to relax in - not so good in areas used for study and work. Green, in Feng Shui, terms has associations with new growth, abundance and wealth - use it to stimulate your "fortunate blessings"!
- Red
- A powerful colour that catches the eye and stimulates the Ch'i flow. It can increase our Fire energy - but might be too strong in rooms like the bedroom.
Add red flowers to give a room an uplift.
- Purple
- A colour that calms and provokes reflection and introspection - but be warned -- bright
purple can be vibrant and is the opposite of restful!
- Orange
- Bright and lively - a colour to stimulate and encourage energy, discussion and happiness.
- Yellow
- The colour of Mother Earth energy - a good colour for family rooms; the
colour most likely to get people talking to each other.
- Brown
- A link with nature - a stabilising colour that "grounds" us.
- White
- Makes things stand out, but is not easy to live with. Attention is focused on the individual alone, not the individual within the environment!
- Blue
- The representation of water - induces peace and tranquillity - ideal in bedrooms but often needs some orange to prevent lowering feelings.
