BLACK MAGIC
Black - a colour that is not a colour...
Black - mysterious... possessor of many powers...
Throughout history black has been worn. As Europe emerged from the Dark Ages monks, philosophers and powerful figures wore
black - symbol of humility, godliness, intellect, power.
The Black Death was as terrifying a plague as its name suggests - it scythed down and decimated medieval people, taking half the population of Europe with it.
Onwards through time ...
Tudor portraits often featured their subjects dressed in black - inspiring awe and fear, giving powerful 'don't mess with me' messages.
Further forward in time ...
The Victorians used black as the symbol of mourning and loss - and as a power symbol -
black hats, black boots, black jackets - powerful men, members of a powerful group.
And today? ...
Never has black been more fashionable - black denims, black leathers, that 'little
black dress', black lingerie, black stockings, black evening jackets,
black suits...
Just what is the magic that black possesses?
As black absorbs all wavelengths, technically it cannot be classed as a colour.
What ARE the properties that Black holds for us people of the 21st Century?
To the slim, it is slimming... wearing black makes relatively slim people appear even more slender.
Conversely, for larger individuals, the wearing of black can make the wearer appear larger, more powerful, more menacing.
Black evening wear and day suits are elegant and classy -
BUT wait...
Wear that black dress and you don't stand out, you fade into the crowd - you can hide!
Black is a secure and safe colour for the uncertain - a dark security blanket!
AND yet...
Lingerie in black gives sensuous and sexy messages, and makes a very powerful statement!
A power colour, a colour to hide behind, a colour that sends out a whole rainbow of psychological messages, a colour that in truth is not a colour at
all!
Black Magic!
