Sweet DreamsHave you ever thought about the meaning of your dreams? Some are just strange things happening which you don't really understand while others have people in them that you know but they behave in such different ways that you are not really sure that you know them at all. From ancient times people have tried to discover the meanings in their dreams through using different methods including using hallucinogetic drugs. Later psychoanalysts believed that dreams could be used to solve problems in the lives of their patients and assist them to understand their personalities. Some psychiatrists are now using dream therapy in the same way. Beta waves which are produced in the brain during dreaming have now been found to be produced when people are awake and undertaking a difficult mental task. The brain uses dreams in order to assist people with their problems. Therapy sessions enable patients to understand the meaning of their dreams. Studies have shown that patients suffering from depression have improved considerably after treatment by having their dreams analysed. Analysing our dreams can help us to change our lives for the better, we should write down all we can remember as soon as we wake in order to study this later and realise the meaning. REM (rapid eye movement) is the phase which begins after you have slept for about one and a half hours and this is when most dreams take place and these phases take place throughout the night. If you wake during REM you are able to remember your dream. During the rest of your sleep your brain is not so active and you will probably not dream. Then there are the colours in your dreams...
So we should remember that our dreams are there to help us in our everyday lives ~ if only we can try to understand them...
